SOUTH DAKOTA

We left Buffalo, Wyoming on Friday, June 7 and traveled to Spearfish, South Dakota.  It was a very short trip but we were still happy to get to Spearfish and get set up.  We spent the evening of the first day finding a place to fill our propane tanks and locating a Wal-Mart.  What else is important?  We looked around Spearfish, locating other things we might be interested in, planning what to do and where to go for the coming week and doing some grocery shopping.

On Sunday, we went to church then took a drive through Spearfish Canyon and on to Deadwood.  The trouble with Deadwood is that there is no parking where you want to be.  We have to park in a central location then either walk all over town or take a trolley tour which we’ll have to do another day.   Deadwood is definitely an interesting little town.  More casinos and saloons then anything.  We did drive up to Mt. Moriah Cemetery where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried.  The cemetery is the length of a football field, uphill both ways.  We didn’t feel like paying the fee to climb a mountain, so we went to the Visitor Center and took a few pictures.

We got a kick out of this bit of information on a display in the Visitor Center.  Watch out for those hard boiled eggs…they’re killers.
