We drove around Keokuk a bit and took a few pictures. This is a cute little city and is laid back and relaxed. Here are some on the pictures we took.
Statue of Chief Keokuk in one of the many city parks
Riverboat museum which we didn’t go through because they were renovating
Victory Park, another city park, is located as part of the riverboat museum property so we took some pictures of the park. Underwater because of the flood level. Canadian geese were enjoying it.
This is one geezer bench we didn’t walk out to sit on.
Same Geezer bench after flood waters receded. Notice all the driftwood.
I loved watching the geese
Geese going down to the water. This was after the flood receded. Notice the debris on the sidewalk? That’s the high water mark and the driftwood that was left behind.
Victory Park came to be after the Civil War. Iowa was a northern state and they brought the wounded Union soldiers up the river to Keokuk by barge for medical attention. This is where they brought the wounded and laid them on the ground until other arrangements could be made.

View of the Mississippi from another of the parks
Some of the fire hydrants had been painted different than the standard bright yellow. I particularly liked this one. I guess folks in Keokuk need something to do.
Barge heading upstream lining up to enter the lock. That bridge is the one we took numerous times to go across into Illinois. Keokuk’s main street turns into a four lane divided highway across the bridge. We couldn’t stop to take pictures from the bridge.
The barge was empty so it was making good time. I thought the tug was neat to watch.
Entering the lock
Lock gates closed. Power plant and dam in the background
