The Great River Road begins in New Orleans and goes the entire length of the Mississippi River to St. Paul, Minnesota. This continuous road crosses bridges so a part of it is in each of the ten Mississippi River states. We first get on to the Great River Road when we cross the bridge into Illinois where the road goes south into Warsaw and north to Nauvoo and then beyond before it crosses into Iowa. This is a two lane road that winds through many small towns all along the Mississippi River. We have driven it every time we went into Nauvoo. It is a beautiful drive and has many parks and rest stops and view points along the short distance we have driven it. We had a picnic in one of the little parks. Here are a few pictures we took along the road.
Road sign showing the symbol for the Great River Road. Our road atlas has the captain’s wheel symbol marking the road up the entire length of the Mississippi

Water was high on the riverbank along here
Along the Great River Road are some beautiful homes (with huge lawns) which overlook the river. Some have their own boat launch ramp. But the grandest of them all is this beautiful home. We just had to take some pictures of it. There wasn’t a place to stop and take pictures except to drive into their driveway so these pictures were taken on the fly.
This is the back view taken from across the river with the dam in the foreground
